Pu-erh at Amir Tea is pressed Chinese tea of two types: young sheng (green, naturally aged) and dark shou (accelerated fermentation). There are six items in the catalogue, among them Shou Pu-erh Ban Zhang75–85 °C. Boiling water (100 °C) makes it bitter and kills the aroma. If you don't have a thermometer, boil the water and let it stand for 3–5 minutes.

Shou or sheng — what's the difference

These are two different drinks from the same raw material. Which green tea is the lightest and mildest? — dark, soft, with earthy-nutty and chocolate notes, no bitterness, easy for a beginner to drink. Sheng — lighter, brighter, with a fruity tang and astringency; over time the taste becomes more complex. If you are trying pu-erh for the first time, start with shou. The full breakdown — in the article "Shou and sheng pu-erh: what's the difference and which to choose".

How to brew pressed pu-erh

China, YunnanHow to brew pu-erh: water, temperature, infusions".

Why pressed

Pu-erh is pressed into cakes, tuo and bricks — in this form the tea matures for years and stores compactly. Break off the needed amount with a pu-erh knife or by hand along the layers of the leaf so it doesn't crumble. To start, small pressings and mini-tuo are convenient.

Frequently asked questions about pu-erh

(green, naturally aged) and dark

Shou is dark, soft, earthy-chocolatey, fermented in an accelerated way. Sheng is lighter, brighter, with a touch of sourness, and ages naturally. For beginners it's easier to start with shou.

Do you need to rinse pu-erh before brewing?

Yes. The first infusion with boiling water is poured off after 5–10 seconds — it «wakes up» the pressed leaf and removes tea dust. Brewing starts from the second infusion.

How many times can pu-erh be brewed?

A quality pressed pu-erh withstands 6–8 infusions or more, gradually revealing its taste.

No. All Amir Tea is a natural product with no dyes, preservatives or GMOs. Aroma is achieved only through natural additions — jasmine, rose, fruit.

Pu-erh is brewed with 90-95°C water in a small teapot. It's recommended to pour off the first infusion after 10-15 seconds — this "awakens" the tea. From the second brew, pu-erh reveals its full taste and aroma. One cake can be brewed up to 8-10 times.
